Why AI training matters

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and correct the examples models learn from. This work is remote, often flexible and part-time, and gives contributors a direct role in shaping how modern assistants behave.

This role focuses on assistant responses related to e-commerce analytics and segmentation — a high-impact area where accurate queries and filters change business decisions.

The role

You will review merchant conversations where an e-commerce assistant answered analytics or segmentation questions incorrectly. Work consists of reading multi-turn dialogs, inspecting the assistant's query or filter and the returned tool data, determining the correct query/filter/report logic, and classifying the failure against a detailed rubric.

This is contract, part-time work (less than 20 hours/week), paid at $60 per hour, and performed remotely in English.

  • Pay: $60 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR).
  • Hours: Less than 20 hours per week; part-time contractor work.
  • Language: English required.
  • Work type: Remote, worldwide.

What you'll do day to day

  • Read multi-turn merchant and assistant conversations and judge whether the assistant's analytics answer is correct.
  • Inspect tool-call cards and returned data to see what query or segment was executed.
  • Identify the correct query, filter, or report logic that should have been used.
  • Classify the failure type (e.g., wrong metric, wrong dimension, wrong filter, unsupported report) using the provided rubric.
  • Write short, objective explanations describing what went wrong and what the correct behavior would be.

Requirements

You must be able to read, write, and critique SQL queries and understand how query structure affects returned results. The job requires attention to detail and clear, concise written explanations.

  • Strong general SQL skills; able to read and critique queries.
  • Comfortable with joins, aggregation, WHERE vs HAVING, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, and LIMIT semantics.
  • Hands-on merchant experience on a major e-commerce platform is strongly preferred.
  • First-hand experience using an e-commerce assistant (merchant-facing assistant) is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with e-commerce analytics schemas, query languages, and segmentation logic is a plus.

Helpful background (nice to have)

If you have prior experience working with e-commerce schemas (sales, payments, sessions, fulfillments, customers), metric nuances, or segmentation connectors, you'll be able to move faster in review tasks.

  • Experience with platform-specific analytics schemas and query languages.
  • Understanding metric distinctions (for example, different ways platforms report items sold vs quantity ordered).
  • Comfort with segmentation logic and boolean connectors (AND/OR, MATCHES, inclusion/exclusion).
  • General e-commerce analytics or operations experience.

How it works / next steps

We provide a detailed rubric, examples, and training materials so you can learn the review standards before starting paid tasks.

  • Apply by creating an OpenTrain account and completing the qualification flow.
  • Complete sample reviews during qualification to demonstrate SQL and analytics knowledge.
  • Once qualified, pick up short review tasks that fit your schedule and get paid hourly.
